Mastering Makeup for Hot Weather
As a small business owner in the beauty business, summer isn’t entirely the way you once remembered it — is it? Our “summer break” is often defined by our family's demands and our audience's trends. We’re attending water parks and summer camp drop-offs while also fitting in meetings in the car or at the local coffee shop. It’s a lot.
You’re asked to feel and look your best while navigating hot weather, an over-stuffed to-do list, and the underlying urge to just sit poolside and unravel.
Here’s the thing. We can’t answer all your problems. But we can support you in one: Helping you look and feel your best by sharing some beauty tips to master your makeup in hot weather.
Embrace the Sun-Kissed Look
Throughout the year, your makeup routine probably has layers to it. You’re juggling multiple products to get the look you want while also making sure it holds up against the moisture of the fall, winter, and spring seasons.
In summer though, it’s important to pull that back a bit. Although you look gorgeous with your typical go-to makeup routine or preferred look, the summer air can be heavy on chemical-filled products or when wearing multiple layers of products. The summer air could also cause the products to not stay in place as long which could irritate your skin. So, as best as you can, consider what products from your routine you can cut back and how you could lean more into the natural sun-kissed glow. Just remember to always sunscreen it up!
Multi-Tasking Products
To be clear, reducing your product usage in no way means cutting out your makeup routine entirely. Makeup is a beautiful way to empower yourself and a form of self-expression. So we're all for it. During the summer, however, when cutting down on products, it's important to find ones that either have multi-purposes (like a blush that also doubles as a sunscreen) or won't weigh down your skin so that you have more room to play with the products you just can't go without.
One example of these is a fan-favorite from our client's at Hourglass. It's the Veil Translucent Setting Powder. A finely-milled and weightless powder, this can be a wonderful product to give your look a flawless finish without weighing down your skin.
Filling up on Moisture
The final suggestion when it comes to beauty tips for mastering your makeup in hot weather is to lean into products that add moisture to your skin. The heat of summer will naturally dry up the natural moisture within your skin.
So, you’ll have to actively work to counteract it. That could be using multi-tasking products that help you achieve your look while adding back-in moisture or having a nighttime routine focused on moisture! No matter which, just be sure it’s a staple in your routine during these next few months.
Master What Feels Right
The beauty business is filled with beauty tips on how to achieve the “perfect look.” But as you journey into summer, let’s keep the real goal in mind: The perfect look is what looks and feels right to you.
Listen to your skin. Watch out for flare-ups and irritations. Pull back on products when something doesn’t feel right and lean into the things that do! We hope that these beauty tips will help make finding the latter easier!
